WikiLeaks

We are now living in the times where information is readily available to us at any given moment. Now who is to say to us that there is information that we should not know.  Information that would be to dangerous for all ears to hear. It shouldn't be like this, but it is. In an effort to unmask secrets hidden from the general public, WikiLeaks comes in and has revealed very classified information. Whether you think this is good or not is up to you to decide. Welcome to the age of information.

There are those that think Wikileaks is dangerous and should be terminated. Sarah Palin stated that Julian Assange, the creator of WikiLeaks, " is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands and the kind of person  we should pursue with the same urgency as Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders." Releasing this type of information could hurt the ties the US has with the Middle East. Terrorist groups and leaders wielding this information can be a threat because they have secret information in their hands. WikiLeaks has published over 3,890 diplomatic documents and that number continues to grow. With this much information, the US's enemies will have secrets that they were not supposed to know, and will work against the US. Governments and Banks are also against it because they might be inolved in immoral actions which not everyone should know about. This can then hurt their functionality and image.

Certain information should not be witheld from the public. They should know what is going in the world they are living in. Secrets endanger the trust that the government has with its citizens. Michael Moore stated that "its best Wikileaks exists, in part, because the mainstream media failed to live up to its responsibility." There are surely many things the media has kept quite about and not revealed to the public. This of course happens because the media is owned by the upper class, who are in bonds with other people that have wealth and power.  In the end, it shows how this is a system that will keep the public ignorant of information that should be known. Plain and simple, if a corporation or government does not want to reveal certain information, it only shows how shady and fradualent their practices are.

  1. Conrad,

Good post! It's clear, concise, and sticks to the point. I like it.

I'm not sure why it took you so long to complete, but here it is.

Where is your Middle East/Afghanistan post?
